उधमपुर Udhampur gears up for 3-day historic Devika Baisakhi mela DC reviews arrangements UDHAMPUR, MARCH 16: The District Administration Udhampur has started preparations for the for three-day historic Devika Baisakhi Mela, commencing from April 14, 2026. To ensure smooth and successful conduct of the event a meeting of district officers and prominent citizens was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Minga Sherpa here at Conference Hall DC Office Complex. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh; Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Umesh Shan; Additional SP Sandeep Bhat; GM DIC Kishore Singh Katoch; officers from line departments, besides representatives from Beopar Mandal and civil society. The meeting held detailed deliberations on arrangements related to security, safe drinking water, power supply, sanitation, traffic management and first-aid services to facilitate the devotees and visitors expected to turn up in large numbers at the mela. The PHE and Civic authorities were asked to make adequate arrangements for drinking water and oversee sanitation and cleanliness. Chief Medical Officer was directed to deploy a team of doctors along with an ambulance to provide prompt healthcare services to visitors. Similarly, the Executive Engineer PDD was instructed to ensure uninterrupted power supply, while the Police Department would make necessary security and traffic arrangements at the mela venue. Other matters, including the finalization of cultural programmes, establishment of a control room, deployment of magistrates and medical teams and availability of fire tenders were also discussed at the meeting. उधमपुर District-level floriculture event held at Udhampur under CSS–MIDH UDHAMPUR, MARCH 16: Department of Floriculture, Gardens & Parks, Udhampur today organized a District-Level event under CSS-MIDH at Udhampur. Deputy Commissioner, Minga Sherpa graced the occasion as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the programme. The event was organized under the guidance of Director Floriculture Vivek Modi, with the objective of promoting commercial floriculture, enhancing environmental beautification and empowering farmers through sustainable livelihood opportunities. The event was attended by Joint Director Floriculture Vikrant Sharma, Deputy Director Floriculture Sunil Singh, Assistant Floriculture Officer Pawan Kumar, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Reasi Dr. Banarasi Lal, Scientist Dr. Sanjay Koushal, Chief Horticulture Officer, District Agriculture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, besides other officers and officials of Agriculture and allied departments. More than 300 farmers and stakeholders associated with floriculture and allied sectors participated enthusiastically in the programme. On the occasion, the DC inspected various stalls showcasing floriculture products, innovative cultivation techniques and government initiatives of Agriculture and allied departments. *Long-Absconding NDPS Accused Arrested by Udhampur Police After 11 Years* Udhampur Police, in a significant operation, has apprehended an accused who had been absconding for a long time. The arrested individual has been identified as Ashok Kumar, son of Pritam Kumar, a resident of Salwara, District Hoshiarpur (Punjab). The accused was wanted in connection with FIR No. 17/2008 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Kud. A warrant under Section 512 CrPC had been issued against him by the Hon’ble Principal District & Sessions Judge, Udhampur on 14/08/2015. The accused had been evading arrest for nearly 11 years. After sustained efforts, Udhampur Police successfully arrested him from Hoshiarpur (Punjab). Following his arrest, the warrant was executed, and as per the orders of the Hon’ble Court, the accused has been lodged in District Jail Udhampur. DC reviews progress of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in Udhampur UDHAMPUR, MAY 05: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa today chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in the district. During the meeting, attended by officers, vendors and representatives for the agencies associated with the scheme, the Executive Engineer JPDCL presented a detailed overview of the scheme’s implementation. He apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the total number of applications received- the cases having allotted vendors, the number of pending applications and the installations completed so far. While reviewing the progress, the DC sought comprehensive feedback on the challenges being faced in the execution of the scheme. He emphasized the need to launch an extensive door-to-door awareness campaign to sensitize the public about the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Stressing effective coordination, the Deputy Commissioner directed JPDCL and empanelled vendors to work in close collaboration to bridge the gap between applications received and pending installations. Arrangements for 3- Day Moungri mela discussed at Udhampur UDHAMPUR, MAY 05: The 3-Day historic Annual Shiv- Parvati Shrine mela at Moungri is commencing from May 15, 2026, In this regard, a meeting of District Officers of the line departments, besides representatives of the management committee of Lord Shiv Parvati cave shrine Moungri was held today. Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa chaired the meeting which was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh; Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr Umesh Shan; Additional SP Sandeep Bhat and other officers. Threadbare discussions were held on the arrangements related to smooth conduct of the mela, like maintenance of road, deployment of security personnel, besides provisions for sanitation, Health care, Transport, drinking water and power supply. The meeting decided to constitute teams to keep a check on overpricing and quality of edibles, oversee ration supply and prepare a calendar of Cultural activities and sports etc. The DC directed the concerned officers to ensure all arrangements pertaining to their respective departments are made well in advance, leaving no scope of any complaint from any quarter. Xen PDD was directed to provide uninterrupted power supply till the culmination of the mela. Executive Engineers PMGSY and PWD were directed to ensure timely filing of the potholes and completion of repair work on the road leading to the Mela Site. It was decided that District Police would deploy adequate security personnel during mela days while ARTO would deploy a sufficient number of buses from different locations. For first aid facilities, the DC directed the Chief Medical Officer to deploy a team of doctors and an ambulance to meet any emergency. The Youth Services & Sports department was asked to organize cultural programmes and sports events at the venue in coordination with the Education department. The government departments were directed to put up their departmental stalls to sensitize the public regarding flagship government schemes. May 6, 2026
