From January to December 2025, a total of 188 cases related to bovine smuggling were registered, resulting in the arrest of 220 persons, including 212 accused involved in bovine smuggling and 08 habitual offenders booked under PSA. As part of the enforcement action, 1,189 bovines were successfully rescued and 144 vehicles used in smuggling activities were seized. Further, stringent action was taken against violators, leading to the cancellation/suspension of 48 documents, including 28 vehicle Registration Certificates and 20 driving licenses. On the prosecution front, 122 convictions were secured, reflecting strong investigation and effective follow-up by Udhampur Police. In a major financial crackdown, properties linked to bovine smugglers were targeted. In 11 cases, 11 vehicles worth approximately ₹1.50 crore were attached under relevant legal provisions, dealing a significant blow to the illegal network.

The attached properties include 11 vehicles (Tata pick-ups and trucks) all used in repeated bovine smuggling. Investigations revealed these assets were acquired from proceeds of crime and after court orders, they were formally attached, striking a strong blow at the financial network of the smuggling nexus. Notably, the highest-value single property attached in 2025 was a truck worth ₹40 lakh, belonging to *Rafqat Ali S/o Mohd Shafi R/o Dabriah, Tehsil & District Udhampur* seized under Section 107(5) BNSS by Police Station Majalta. This vehicle alone represents a significant milestone in dismantling the smuggling network. Udhampur Police reiterates its commitment to zero tolerance against bovine smuggling and warns that offenders will face strict legal action and seizure of assets.

ADC reviews winter preparedness arrangements in Udhampur UDHAMPUR, DECEMBER 24: Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Prem Singh today convened a meeting of officers from the line departments to review the action plan for winter preparedness. Detailed discussions were held on key aspects, including road clearance in snow prone areas, ensuring smooth vehicular movement on the National Highway, identification of additional parking locations at Patnitop and maintaining uninterrupted connectivity during the winter season. The ADC directed the concerned departments to activate men and machinery well in advance to avoid disruption to traffic and essential services. The JPDCL was instructed to maintain an adequate buffer stock of power transformers and wires at sub-divisional workshops to facilitate timely replacement and repairs. Similarly, the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department was directed to ensure availability of sufficient essential items including ration and LPG both in remote areas and at sales centres. He also called for enhanced efforts to complete the stocking of essential commodities in snow-bound and remote areas.

PR/DDI/J/4635// District Level awareness programme held at Block Khoon as part of Good Governance Week UDHAMPUR, DECEMBER 24: As part of the ongoing Good Governance Week, the Jammu & Kashmir Khadi and Village Industries Board (JKKVIB) Udhampur on Wednesday organised a one-day district-level awareness programme at Block Khoon. The event aimed to generate awareness about the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the J&K Rural Employment Generation Programme (JKREGP) being implemented by JKKVIB. The schemes offer financial assistance to unemployed youth and artisans for establishing their own businesses and manufacturing units. The programme was attended by Director RSETI, Lead District Manager SBI, Branch Manager J&K Bank Khoon, Ex-Sarpanchs and Panches and a large number of unemployed youth from the area. District Officer J&K KVIB, Yogesh Joshi welcomed all the participants and provided in-depth knowledge about the scope of schemes being implemented by J&K KVIB. He explained in detail the eligibility, documents required and the application filing process for seeking financial assistance under the twin schemes.

Additional Registrar Cooperative Societies reviews functioning of Cooperative banks in Udhampur UDHAMPUR, DECEMBER 24: Under the “Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore” initiative and as part of the International Year of Cooperatives, a detailed field visit was undertaken by Additional Registrar Cooperative Societies, Jammu Division, Bal Krishan in district Udhampur. The visit aimed at strengthening cooperative institutions at the grassroots level and reviewing the implementation of key Cooperative sector initiatives. En-route, the Officer inaugurated a fertilizer retail shop at Krimachi, enhancing access to essential agricultural inputs for local farmers through the cooperative framework. Later, the Additional Registrar inspected the functioning of major cooperative banks including Devika Urban Cooperative Bank and Jammu Central Cooperative Bank. The inspections focused on operational efficiency, adherence to cooperative principles, transparency and quality of services. Emphasis was laid on strengthening the governance mechanism, improving financial discipline and ensuring effective credit delivery to members, particularly those engaged in agriculture and allied activities. The Additional Registrar also held detailed deliberations with proposed beneficiaries of the Cash Credit Limit Scheme and the Cooperative Infrastructure Development Fund Scheme and reviewed the proposals. Beneficiaries including secretaries of the Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) were sensitised about eligibility criteria and the statutory provisions.

During checking, a Hyundai i10 car bearing registration number JK01M-2597, coming from Jammu side and going towards Srinagar side was signalled to stop. During personal search, the police party recovered 5.71 grams of heroin from the possession of the driver namely *Aquib Hamed S/o Abdul Hamed Bhat R/o Kak Sarai, Karan Nagar, Srinagar*. Further, during checking of the co-passenger sitting in the said vehicle namely *Raqib Ahmed S/o Abdul Salam R/o Buch Mohalla, MR Ganj, Srinagar,* 5.41 grams of heroin was recovered from his personal possession. Thus, a total of 11.12 grams of heroin was recovered. In this regard, a case FIR No. 426/2025 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation is underway

Good Governance Week: ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore’ campaign in full swing across Udhampur UDHAMPUR, DECEMBER 20: As part of the ongoing “Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore” campaign, Municipal Committee Ramnagar successfully cleared two legacy waste sites, marking a significant step towards creating a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable urban environment. A series of activities were conducted at Block Chanunta under the campaign to promote good governance, enhance service delivery and ensure effective redressal of public grievances at the grassroots level through active people’s participation. Mediation For The Nation 2.0 DLSA Udhampur intensifies awareness activities UDHAMPUR, FEBRUARY 07: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Udhampur has initiated a publicity drive to spread awareness about the nationwide initiative “Mediation For The Nation 2.0” pursuant to the directions from the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority. The campaign undertaken under the Chairmanship of Kalpana Revo, Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairperson DLSA Udhampur) and supervision of Secretary, DLSA Sumati Sharma, to sensitize the public, particularly litigants, to the benefits and advantages of mediation as an effective Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism. In this regard, DLSA Udhampur organized a series of campaigns and programs to promote Mediation 2.0. Posters were put up at prominent locations, including DC Office, District Court Complex, prominent chowks and in other parts of the Township, as well as Tehsils Ramnagar, Majalta and Chenani. The PLVs engaged with the public, explaining mediation benefits and processes. GDC Udhampur enters strategic partnership with JKEDI to strengthen entrepreneurial and start-up ecosystem UDHAMPUR, FEBRUARY 07: Government Degree College Udhampur has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute- the District start-up cell, marking a significant step towards fostering entrepreneurship, innovation and skill-based learning among students. The MoU was formally signed by District Nodal Officer, JKEDI Udhampur Yash Paul and President, Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) Prof. Rakesh Singh, in the presence of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar Verma, faculty members and officials from both institutions. DC listens to public issues at far flung Block Parlidhar UDHAMPUR, FEBRUARY 06: To strengthen grassroots governance and ensure an effective grievance redressal mechanism, the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, today conducted a public outreach-cum-grievance redressal programme at remote Block Parlidhar. During the camp, former PRI members and local people of adjoining panchayats raised several important issues and demands, including the construction of a Patwar Khana building, upgradation of the tractor road from Kawa to Dhanwalt, construction of a forest hut at Parlidhar, footbridge at Malti, upgradation of the High School to Higher Secondary level, Road connectivity and water supply at Dhanwalt, construction of a pucca path to Chanotra Mandir and development of a playground at Parlidhar. The public also highlighted the shortage of staff in various educational and health institutions. While Interacting with PRIs and the general public, the DC said that the main objective of the outreach programme is to obtain a firsthand appraisal of issues at the grassroots level. She added that such camps help deliver governance at people’s doorsteps and strengthen the public service delivery mechanism. She further assured that their genuine issues would be addressed in a time-bound manner.
